In my family, we often discuss the key differences between Intelligence, Wisdom and Leadership using the following statement: Intelligence is knowing the right thing to do. Wisdom is doing the right thing. Leadership is doing the right thing first.

With such a deceptively simple process, there is plenty of opportunity for refinement and tweaking it over time. But that continuous improvement is built into the process, and that is why this is often called an "engine." The goal is to improve that process so you are not just “doing” the right things, but “doing them first”... aka Leadership.
